Selecting investments to build a portfolio is only half of the management process. Tracking the ongoing changes in these investments and deciding when to move into stronger positions is the key to improving a portfolios total return over time. Everyone who gives investment advice should know, before recommending any investment, what changes in their reasons for the recommendation will cause them to sell. Without answering this basic question decisions are frequently made based simply on price movement or emotion and this can lead to selling winners too soon and holding mistakes much too long. The Performance Tracking process is designed to avoid these problems.
Performance Tracking is not only for people who prefer a Managed Portfolio but also for experienced investors who prefer a Self Directed Portfolio. In both cases our clients receive performance reports every month that (unlike a typical brokerage statement) includes the research and key facts they need to see exactly how each of their positions are performing, relative to other potential investments, and to understand why any position in a managed portfolio was exchanged. These reports are also designed to help self directed investors make better decisions by clearly showing when there have been significant changes in any of their positions to the point where they should consider selling.
My goal is to offer individual investors a better investment account with truly useful investment research, personalized portfolio management and discount brokerage all at the lowest possible cost.
